What To Do After the Career Fair

Organize and reflect

After you attend a career fair, take some time to review any materials, handouts or information you received and decide how you would like to follow up. Jot down questions the employers asked, as you may hear them again. It may be helpful to add a reminder to your calendar to send follow-up inquiries or thank-you notes.

Apply to open jobs and internships

When searching for opportunities, make sure to check both Handshake and the employer’s website. If you don’t find the opportunity you are looking for, check again frequently, as new positions may be posted daily.

Reach out to thank employers

Thank you notes should be sent soon after a meeting with an employer. This interaction can be an email, a phone call, or a handwritten note. Don’t forget to express your interest in their organization, remind them why you are a great candidate, and highlight the skills and experience you have to offer. You can also reach out to connect with the employer via LinkedIn or Handshake.

Career Fair Follow-Up Email Example

Dear Mr. Recruiter,

My name is Brutus Buckeye, and we met on September 13 at The Ohio State University Career and Internship Fair. I enjoyed speaking with you about your company and the current opportunities available. I was specifically impressed by the company’s mission and dedication to its employees.

I wanted to restate my interest in the Financial Analyst position. I would be excited and honored to be considered for an interview. I believe that my experiences in my internships and my time as a student at The Ohio State University have significantly prepared me to be successful both in this role and within this company.

I have attached a copy of my resume for your review. Please let me know if you have any questions about my experiences. Thank you so much for your time and consideration. I genuinely appreciate your kindness in answering my questions and offering advice.

Sincerely,

Brutus Buckeye
