Interviewing

Congratulations on securing an interview! This guide will help you navigate the interview process, covering strategies for different formats, the STAR interviewing technique and providing examples of well-crafted responses. Learn how to make a positive first impression, tackle common questions and handle follow-ups and rejections.

Interview Basics

1. Know Your Audience

  • Tailor questions based on the interviewer’s role within the company
  • Avoid asking overly specific questions to an HR recruiter that only someone in a specific department would know
  • Review company websites and be familiar with the company’s mission statement

2. Consider the Interview Stage

  • In the early stages of the interview process, ask more general questions about the company’s strategy and priorities
  • As the process progresses, drill down to more specific details

3. Ask Meaningful Questions

  • Ask questions you genuinely want answers to, and actively listen to the responses
  • Inquire about the next steps in the process, such as second-round interviews or expected timelines

4. Close with Finesse

  • Conclude the interview on a high note.
  • Reiterate interest: Briefly reaffirm your interest and qualifications.
