Sixty percent of communication is nonverbal, so be mindful of your:
- Handshake
- Eye contact
- Posture
- Tone
- Nervous habits
Tone and Enthusiasm
- Convey enthusiasm about the position and maintain a positive attitude.
- Avoid speaking negatively about yourself or past experiences.
- Emphasize positive points confidently, factually, and honestly.
Reflection and Thought Process
- Take time to reflect quietly, if needed, before answering to process your thoughts.
- Be concise and specific when representing yourself.
Politeness and Clarification
- Politely ask for clarification if you don’t fully understand a question.
- Refrain from putting the interviewer on the spot for immediate feedback.
- Avoid compensation discussion. Do not ask about compensation during the interview; save this for post-offer discussions.
- Be courteous to everyone you meet.
- No gum or candy. Avoid distractions during the interview.
- Be mindful of strong scents or fragrances, such as perfumes and colognes.
- Turn off your cell phone to eliminate potential disruptions.
